Amy Twigger Holroyd is a designer, maker and researcher. Under the umbrella of her experimental knitwear label, Keep & Share, she has been active in the fertile field of fashion and sustainability since 2004. Her doctoral research at Birmingham Institute of Art & Design informed her forthcoming monograph, Folk Fashion: Understanding Homemade Clothes (I.B.Tauris, 2017). In 2016 Amy joined Nottingham Trent University as a Senior Lecturer in Design, Culture & Context.
This panel, convened by Dr Amy Twigger Holroyd, will tug at the seams of maker culture in order to explore its current cultural status and revolutionary potential. Together, the panel participants will draw on their diverse experiences to consider whether making is, as some have argued, a 'quiet revolution' which makes us more connected with the world - or, as others have proposed, an 'ineffectual distraction' which has no effect on the consumerist machine of contemporary capitalism.
