Toni Buckby

Based in Sheffield (UK), Toni Buckby is an artist working with embroidery (particularly the 16th century technique of Blackwork), traditional spinning and weaving, e-textiles, digital fabrication, electronics and code.

Graduating from Sheffield Hallam University in 2014 with an MA in Fine Art, Toni has worked on cross-disciplinary project in textiles, music and digital technologies and is currently working on The Interlace Project at the Derby Silk Mill Museum of Making, a four year commission combining the traditional weaving techniques with e-textiles, open-source design and community-based co-production. Toni also has several years of experience as an arts facilitator in digital fabrication for Access Space, an internationally renowned multi-use arts venue with a particular focus on digital technologies.

In 2018 she began her PhD research project, “Re-embroidering Blackwork: exploring digital reconstruction and interpretation through contemporary art practice”, as a Collaborative Doctoral Partnership student at Sheffield Hallam University and The Victoria & Albert Museum.
