Slub

Slub is an electronic music collaboration running since the year 2000, started by Adrian Ward and Alex McLean and later joined by Dave Griffiths and Alexandra Cardenas. They make intensive, broken algorithmic dance music, using self-built software environments and programming languages. They've performed at festivals across Europe, including Sonar, Club Transmediale, Sonic Acts and STRP. For AlgoMech at least two thirds of Slub (Alex, Dave and Alex) will create dance music from live coded patterns on custom hardware, inspired by ancient warp-weighted weaving techniques. 

Alexandra Cardenas is a composer, programmer, and improviser of music born in Bogotá, Colombia. She studied composition at the Universidad de Los Andes where she also carried studies in mathematics and classical guitar. Using open source software like SuperCollider and TidalCycles, her work is focused on the exploration of the musicality of code and the algorithmic behavior of music. Alexandra is among the pioneers of live coding in electroacoustic music and at the forefront of the Algorave scene. Dave Griffiths is an game designer, programmer and livecoding algoraver based in Cornwall. In 2014 he co-founded Foam Kernow, an independent research institution for exploring uncharted regions of art/science and designing speculative cultures, including the MIDI Mutant collaboration with Aphex Twin. With an early education in weaving, bell ringing, 8 bit computers and animation, he has worked in the games (Sony Europe) and film computer graphics industry (Moving Picture Company), and has credits on feature films including Troy and Kingdom of Heaven. https://fo.am/people/dave/

Alex McLean is a live coder, software artist and researcher based in Sheffield UK. He co-founded the Algorave and TOPLAP live coding movements, and initiated the free/open source TidalCycles live coding environment. He performs solo as Yaxu, releasing music on the Computer Club label, and performing at algoraves around the world. http://slab.org/
